Ancient Mexican tradition
Our Mexican hammocks, made in Chiapas, southern Mexico, perpetuate a centuries-old tradition. They are handcrafted by families of artisans, using ancestral methods handed down from generation to generation. In the past, the Chiapas region was renowned for its production of Ixtle and Henequen, used to make the first hammocks.
A Mexican nylon hammock: the guarantee of an outdoor hammock
Made from 100% Nylon, the same material used in fishing nets, our hammock is weather-resistant. It can withstand the most extreme conditions, from frost to rain to sunshine. To maintain its quality, we recommend storing the hammock under cover after use. In winter, store inside the house rather than outside or in a garage. It's also advisable to wash it at least once a year to prevent dust mites from making it their home. In Mexico and Brazil, where people often use their hammocks as their main bed, they are washed every two weeks.
The Mexican hammock: the best choice for outdoors
The Mexican Nylon Hammock is the preferred choice for outdoor use. Unlike cotton, which can become damaged with prolonged exposure to sun and rain, Nylon offers superior durability, while guaranteeing similar comfort. In the hot regions of Mexico, it is used daily as a replacement for the bed, offering optimal ventilation to counter the heat. Like our XXL QUEEN MAYA hammocks? When hammocks forge matrimonial bonds
When it comes to marriage, many indigenous communities in Latin America don't ritualize it. The fiancé or fiancée joins their spouse in his or her home, setting up their hammock close to his or her own. Sometimes, in the early days, they use a larger hammock to accommodate them both.
In the event of separation, simply remove the hammock. However, in the case of a ritualized wedding, the hammock may be of particular importance. At Ka'apor in eastern Brazil, the wedding is officially announced by the village chief while the couple sits in a hammock, their heads wrapped in cloth. In the Caribbean region, the hammock has also been used as a dowry.
Did you know?
Hammocks have the ability to adapt to the position of the person resting in them, creating a unique experience of relaxation. So it's not surprising to feel a certain discomfort when using a hammock that doesn't belong to you.
